West Virginia Container Questions

Questions about pricing, delivery, permits, ground conditions and container grades in West Virginia. If your question is not here, call or text (330) 510-5817.

Kanawha Valley hillsides and Morgantown's older neighborhoods can have steep entrances or narrow turns. A Huntington river-bottom landing needs drainage and a check for soft ground after rain. Farms in the Eastern Panhandle and Potomac Highlands may have gravel entrances, switchbacks or one-lane creek bridges. In the Northern Panhandle and Mid-Ohio Valley, check low underpasses and the width of the property entrance. Southern routes can include wooded bends and steep driveways. Use the quote form on the Contact page to request a container and describe these access features before choosing a size.

Pricing and Delivery

Pricing terms. What you pay depends on the size, grade and condition you choose, what is in stock when you order, and your delivery address. Container One sets prices, and they change without notice. Your written quote gives the price for your order. Prices as of October 14, 2026.

Delivery requires the following straight, unobstructed space:

  • 20ft container: 110 feet of straight clearance from the drop point
  • 40ft container: 130 feet of straight clearance from the drop point

The truck needs at least 15 ft of height to drive, at least 22 ft of height along the entire unloading path, and at least 10 ft of width. Low utility lines, tree limbs and roof overhangs can stop a delivery. If you are unsure, describe the approach when you ask for a quote.

Warranty runs by grade: one-trip units carry a 10 year structural and 10 year no-leak warranty, cargo worthy and wind and water tight units carry a 5 year structural and 5 year no-leak warranty, and economy units carry a 1 year roof leak warranty. The warranty travels with the grade you buy, so if warranty length matters to you it is worth comparing grades before you compare prices.
We sell containers. We do not rent them. Rent-to-own runs through a third-party partner, My Container Rental, and spreads the payments until you own the container. Our rent vs buy guide walks through when each path makes sense.

West Virginia Questions

October 14, 2026 pricing: starting at $2,415 for a 20ft Wind and Water Tight container delivered in Huntington, and starting at $2,786 for a 40ft Wind and Water Tight container delivered in Huntington. Send your destination ZIP for a quote for your property.
Section 3-070 C.7 of the Charleston Zoning Ordinance lists "Moving and storage containers parked in the front yard" as a temporary use, with a maximum duration of 30 days and no permit required. The ordinance does not define those containers. Ask Development Services at 304-348-6833 whether the provision covers the container you plan to buy and how a longer placement or a different use would be reviewed.
Include your ZIP code and a route description in your quote request. Mark any slope or creek bridge in the description. Have photographs of turns, overhead obstructions and the landing ready when a Container One representative contacts you.
Container One's Delivery/Dispatch department contacts you to schedule a date and time. Timing depends on location, payment, weather and other factors. Tell the representative about soft creek-bottom ground, a steep driveway or a restricted entrance.
Ask Huntington Planning & Zoning to check the proposed container location. The city's official floodplain page identifies risk near tributaries, including Four-Pole Creek and Krouts Creek. It states that development in a flood-prone area requires a floodplain permit and an elevation certificate.
Morgantown's Accessory Structure Permit Guidance asks for parcel details and an accurate site plan showing boundaries and setbacks. For a prefabricated structure, it asks for anchoring information for design wind loads. Describe the container and intended use to Development Services before preparing the application.
As of October 14, 2026, the origin depot for a 20ft Wind and Water Tight container was Columbus, OH, for Charleston; Cincinnati, OH, for Huntington; and Baltimore, MD, for Morgantown. Ask the Container One representative which depot serves the size and grade you want at your address.
No. The plan depends on the county's climate and the container's use. The U.S. Department of Energy's Building America guide places Kanawha and Cabell in climate zone 4A and Monongalia in climate zone 5A, which has colder winter conditions. For a heated or cooled container, ask a qualified building designer to plan the insulation and moisture control for that county and use.
Contact Kanawha County Planning and Development at 304-357-0570. Its Building Permit Guidelines and Procedures require a permit to build, relocate or place a new or used structure in an unincorporated area. Give the office the parcel location and planned container use.
Describe the creek bridge's width and condition in the quote form on the Contact page. Include any posted restrictions. Ask the Container One representative who contacts you how to send photographs of the crossing if needed.

Container Grades

  • One-trip: made one loaded ocean crossing. Clean floors, intact paint, close to new.
  • Cargo worthy: can pass a marine survey to be re-certified for shipping. Structurally sound, cosmetically used.
  • Wind and water tight (WWT): inspected to confirm the doors seal, there are no holes, and the interior stays dry. Surface rust, paint wear and minor dents are normal.
  • Economy: the lowest grade we sell. Weathered, and priced accordingly.

For a grade-by-grade walkthrough, see the container condition guide.

It depends on what the container is for. If it is going to be seen, lived in, or converted, the clean interior and intact paint save real work later and the 10 year structural and 10 year no-leak warranty is the longest available. If it is going behind a shed to hold equipment, a wind and water tight unit does the same job for less.

Sizes and Dimensions

We offer 20ft standard, 40ft standard and 40ft high cube containers, plus modified containers and refrigerated units in 20ft and 40ft.

40ft High Cube39'5" x 7'9" x 8'10"2,694 cu ftabout 8,775 lbs

Modified and Refrigerated Units

Personnel doors, roll-up doors, windows, vents, partition walls, electrical packages with outlets and a service panel, LED lighting, insulation, spray foam, A/C units with heat, shelving, interior wall panels and vinyl flooring. Insulation and HVAC choices depend on the climate the box will sit in: A West Virginia container may need both winter heating and summer cooling. Plan insulation for the roof, walls and floor together with air sealing and a way to manage indoor moisture.
A reefer has a refrigeration unit built into one end. It runs on a 480V 3-phase supply, or a compatible generator where 3-phase power is not available. The walls are insulated as part of the original build.

Site Preparation and Foundation

The West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey identifies floods, landslides and subsidence as common geologic hazards. Check the history and condition of the proposed spot before bringing in a loaded truck.

For temporary placement: Choose a drained, firm landing and support the four corner castings evenly. Check that the doors open freely after placement. Loose blocks on saturated creek-bottom ground need a better bearing surface before unloading.

For permanent placement or a conversion: Have a qualified foundation designer assess the soil, slope, drainage and corner loads for an occupied or permanent project. Tell them about any past mining or fill on the property. The West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey identifies both as sources of sinking ground.

Frost depth: Ask the city or county building department how far below the finished ground level the foundation footings must extend for frost protection. West Virginia State Building Code rule 87CSR4 section 7.3 assigns these local design decisions to the government that adopts the code.

In the Potomac Highlands and southern counties, the truck approach can be as important as the landing itself.

Place the container on flat, level ground. Clear debris, rocks and brush from the placement area, confirm the straight space the delivery truck needs, and check for overhead lines and limbs. If the delivery truck gets stuck, you are responsible for getting it out or having it towed. Container One does not move the container once it is placed.

Security and Buying Safely

The box itself is corrugated Corten steel. The lock is the weak point, so use a hidden shackle lock, sometimes called a puck lock, inside a lockbox welded over the handle. Container One sells a lock box that covers the padlock as a separate accessory.
The recurring signs are a price far under the market, payment demanded by wire transfer or crypto, no verifiable business identity or contact route, and pressure to decide today. A real dealer will give you a phone number, answer questions before payment, and put the quote in writing.
